weekend fun

This past weekend my husband and I, along with wonderful friends and their precious baby girl, headed up to Blue Ridge for a weekend of relaxing in the mountains. My brother and his wife were incredibly sweet and let us use their place for a few days. We had such a great time! I didn't get many pictures; actually, I got just one from our hike Sunday morning:

While the guys played 4 rounds of golf on the wii, us ladies got to chill out and read our books. We ate lots of good food, walked around downtown Blue Ridge, and just had a great time spending time with friends. Now it's back to work tomorrow-but definitely hoping to go back to Blue Ridge soon!

style inspiration

One of my favorite people to look to for style inspiration is none other than the Duchess herself, Kate Middleton.  I was living in Alpharetta when Will and Kate got married. Hubby and I drove to Augusta the night before, and my mom and I got up bright and early (as in about 4:30 a.m.) to watch the festivities. It was awesome!

Anywho, I think the Duchess is a great example for someone who is looking for a great, classic look. With reality stars (Jersey Shore anyone?) taking over television these days, it's very refreshing to see someone dress simple and elegant. And, it's pretty easy to recreate many of her looks. Especially since most of us don't have the budget that the royal family has :)

Although HRH does wear some serious designer brands, I love how she mixes in more affordable pieces too. And one of my fave websites is this one: What Kate Wore. I don't know how they do it, but they're able to pin down (so quickly!) what designer she's wearing, all the way down to her accessories, handbags, and shoe brand. All within, like, 24 hours! They also list other brands that she tends to shop for. Needless to say, I am a fan of Kate. I love her style, and maybe I'll pop into one of her favorite shops when we're in London! Well, I could at least window shop...

across the pond

I hinted in the last post that we were jet setting. And come summertime we're off to Scotland and England! And I am soverysuperexcited! For the past 3 years I have wanted to see Scotland. Specifically the Highlands. Why? Because of this series right here:

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

This author is a-ma-zing. I mean hello, it's inspired me to go and actually see the places she's written about. I highly recommend this series. There are currently seven books and she's working on the eighth one. They're pretty thick books but don't let that scare you. Give them a chance.  One of my best friends has already gotten sucked in. And I'm re-reading them for the third time. They're that good.

And then we're off to...London!! We're hoping (fingers crossed!) to get into Wimbledon one day. I'm also hoping some Royals will be there. (My hubby went to the Australian Open a couple of years back and who showed up? Prince William!) The other days we'll be sightseeing! I look forward to having a spot of tea and seeing the crown jewels and all the other wonderful things London has to offer!

So across the pond we go. I'm going to try and blog from our travels so keep an eye out!

hello

Hello blog world. As a first time blogger, bear with me as I adjust to the whole "blog world" thing. It's still a work in progress! I'll be writing about random stuff. Food, travel, crafts, fashion-Kate Middleton (ahem-Smitty), and everyday random things. Hopefully it's interesting and not boring :)

A few very exciting things coming up in the next month! Hint: big move and jet setting. Stay tuned!
